Review Budget

It was reported that we have spent $6,781.04 of the budgeted $10,388.24.

Review Activities Schedule & Competition Results

There was some brief discussion regarding the Quiz Bowl results as well as some minor concerns expressed regarding the nature of drug and alcohol related questions that were asked by the moderator. It was determined that the nature of these questions were factual and objective in nature and not subjective. These questions are purchased from the Questions Unlimited Company and are used by schools across the country.

There was considerable discussion regarding the future of the Language Arts Competition because with CC-C leaving the league the only schools with Language Arts teams will be LHS, CHHS, and CMHS. There was discussion that BRHS & RCHS or BRHS & MSHS may choose to create a cooperative team and can split the points for the overall league awards. At the March 15 th Principals’ Meeting Tom, Tim, and Denny will report on the possibility of fielding one or more Language Arts kids. There was also discussion about entertaining the inclusion of former CSAA schools like St. Louis and Ithaca with respect to academic competitions if they were willing to travel, however we want to keep it in house if possible.

With Carson City – Crystal leaving Forensics and Model UN are on the bubble with respect to remaining league events. Quiz Bowl is stable, but we need to make a concerted effort to solidify Language Arts, Forensics, and Model UN as league events. It was mentioned that White Cloud has a strong Quiz Bowl team and would fit nicely there if they were included in the league.

It was also noted by Mike and Jerry that it would be nice if we could reinstate Science Olympiad and stimulate team interest with our new members. Jerry shared the individual competitions traditional held with Science Olympiad.

Pay to participate with various activities was briefly discussed and it was noted that many districts ( Detroit Area) frequently charge a fee for participation in National Honor Society.

NEW BUSINESS:

1:40PM ........................... Athletics Discussion/Updates ................ Group Discussion

Frosh Basketball Teams Playing In Middle School Gyms:

Academically this would be sound because it wouldn’t require the Frosh team leaving before school ends and allows students to get home earlier, but this may cost districts more because you will need double personnel to run at different events (clocks, announcing, scoreboard, tickets) and will likely have more costs for officials. This also may be perceived negatively by freshmen that have to play in the middle school. This may also negatively affect gate receipts.

1:50PM ...... Science Olympiad Competition – Fulton High School ........ Jerry Winkler

On Saturday, March 3 rd, 2007 8:00AM – 12:00PM at Fulton High School there will be a practice Science Olympiad Competition hosted at Fulton High School . John Winkler, a science teacher at Fulton is coordinating the event. There will be a middle school level and a high school level on that day.

Principals’ Meeting 5:00PM 04-19-07 – Location??? ......................... Tim Haist

The dinner meeting will be informal and will likely be held at Bennigan’s connected to the Holiday Inn in Big Rapids. Tim Haist will confirm at the March 15 th meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

2:00PM ............................. Transition to Trimesters .................. Group Discussion

Merit Curriculum Course Alignment & Sequencing (Math, Science, World Languages, Government/Economics, etc.)

Most districts in our league are phasing in the new graduation requirements for the MME with the incoming Freshmen class. For 2007-2008 Lakeview and Big Rapids will have phased in all requirements except the World Language Component and Central Montcalm will require all new components including the languages. CHHS is offering 1 Trimester of Gov’t (Civics) and 1 Trimester of Economics, BRHS is doing the same and CMHS is only requiring 9 weeks of Gov’t and 9 weeks of Economics.

Tim Haist requested copies of the Math and English units that were developed by the Montcalm Area Career Center . Mike and/or Jerry will bring hard copies to the March 15 th meeting to share with our MOISD member schools so that they can be shared with their career center. The principal at MACC is Paula Fortino and she can be contacted at pfortino@maisd.com.
